This core strategy starts with the creation of an Employment Proposal. An effective proposal does two things. First, it clearly identifies the solution to a problem that the prospective employer is facing. It should be obvious that if an employer didn’t have a problem he was trying to solve, he wouldn’t be looking for an additional employee.
Second, the proposal matches the problem’s solution with the skill set of the applicant. It would obviously not help the job-seeker to present a solution that he was unqualified to implement.
Once the prospective employer sees his problem clearly defined, and sees the applicant as a key player in the implementation of a solution, the employer has “a compelling reason to hire you.” Since the overwhelming majority of job-seekers still show up at interviews thinking that their job history, education, etc. are of primary interest to the interviewer, you can expect that your proposal will be the only one on the table. It positions you as an expert and it will blow the competition away.
